Natural Light

Today I went for breakfast with my friends from high school at a place called Café Mission in Shoreditch.

It's a rooftop café in the same building as a yoga studio in East London. To be honest, it felt a bit awkward walking past the area where people are recovering having done actual exercise to get to the lift to the rooftop just to eat, but let's put that aside for now...

The best bit of the entire experience was the natural light*. The café is set within an industrial-style penthouse with floor-to-ceiling windows at both ends. The amount of light that streamed in through the windows was an absolute gamechanger. I could feel it lifting my spirits in realtime.

In general, I don't think I pay enough attention to the physical spaces I choose to spend time in. I've known about the so-called Cathedral Effect for a while, but I've never really put it to good use. The change of mindset - the optimism - from being in a space like that is like rocket fuel.

Note to future self for all living and working spaces - pay up for high ceilings and shed loads of light.

*P.S. The food itself was a bit average and fairly pricey. But the light...
